Fifth Annual Grafton Winter Carnival Offers a Winter Delight

Nordic Skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, and more planned for February 25, 2017

Grafton, Vt. — Winter in Vermont isn’t complete without Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center’s Annual Winter Carnival. On Saturday, February 25, cold weather enthusiasts are encouraged to pull on their woolen socks and extra layers to celebrate with a full day of winter fun and a night at the Grafton Inn’s popular Ice Bar.

At 9 a.m., the Carnival starts with Nordic skiing and on-snow fat biking on the 15 km trail system, a third of which features snowmaking technology. New single-track fat biking trails will also be open, along with snowtime favorites — snowshoeing and tubing. And, starting at noon until the Carnival wraps up at 4 p.m., revelers can relax fireside at the outdoor bonfire — s’mores included! All of these activities are included with the purchase of a $15 Carnival ticket, available at the gate. Ski, snowshoe, and fat bike rentals will be available for $12 each, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Horse-drawn sleigh rides will be available from noon to 3:30 p.m. for $20 for adults and $12 for children. Fat bike test drives will be on offer at a Fat Bike Demo Tent presented by West Hill Bike Shop, an opportunity to try out the trails and bikes from Salsa Cycles.

Finally, this winter wonderland wouldn’t be complete without melty, fresh-baked pizza. The Grafton Pizza Truck will be serving up pepperoni, cheese, and veggie pies from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Grafton Inn’s popular Ice Bar — the Carnival version of apres ski — will continue the celebrations from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., just down the road at the Grafton Inn’s courtyard. Vermont libations from Harpoon Brewery, Whistlepig Whiskey, and Silo Distillery are on tap until 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and include admission, two drink tickets and a souvenir glass. Phelps Barn Tavern, adjacent to the Ice Bar, will play host to live music starting at 7:30 p.m.
